Aca-mazing a capella

If you're looking for something to do next weekend, check out Pitch Perfect, the movie about collegiate a capella -- a charming look into riff-offs, mash-ups, and music on campus. Based on the non-fiction book Pitch Perfect: The Quest for Collegiate A Cappella Glory, the movie was filmed at Louisiana State University.

But how true to actual a capella life is it? Well…  See Insider Higher Ed's discussion here about whether the recruitment and rivalry depicted in the film reflect the actual college a capella experience. (Final verdict? Mostly, yes.) Nevertheless, it's highly entertaining and a reminder of the field day students can have pursuing activities colleges offer students outside the classroom.  Take a look at this clip from the movie and you'll see why Entertainment Weekly says "I came away from this movie thinking that riff offs are the main reason one should sing at the college level."
