Gourmet Guide

University of Arizona joins the Gourmet Guide

If you're visiting the Tucson campus of the University of Arizona, we've got recommendations for where to find Spanish tapas, a gastropub with artisanal cheeses and salume and "environmentally sound" seafood at an on-campus bistro where you can also order a triple decker grilled cheese and tomato. We've also got best bets for campus staples like pizza, decadent pastries, and the local food with its own fan base -- Eegees, a drink of "brain freezing fruit goodness." Oh, and this is Tucson, so Mexican American food gets a section of its own with three of the best places to find chimichangas, tamale pie and a Sonoran style hot dog. Thank you to University of Arizona's dean of undergraduate admissions Kasey Urquidez and her staffers Rafael Meza and Mary Venezia. Check their recommendations out here

SMU Joins the Gourmet Guide

If you're headed to Southern Methodist University in Dallas, Texas, we've got some treats in store for you, thanks to these recommendations from Regional Director of Admissions Rick Diaz and the SMU Admissions office. From breakfast tacos to Blue Bell Ice Cream sandwiches, the great state of Texas is well represented -- BBQ, burgers, Tex Mex and Gulf oysters.  Of course, there's also Italian, Latin, German and American fare to be had, as well. Personally, we're going for the frito chili pie or a Twisted Root burger… or maybe some Texas brisket chili (that means no beans, according to the admission office gourmands!). Take your pick among all their recommendations here.

Drake University Joins the Gourmet Guide

Welcome to the Gourmet Guide, Drake University! Midwestern friendliness and food go hand in hand at the cafes, diners and BBQ joints of Des Moines, Iowa. If you're walking Drake's 150-acre campus, you will welcome having the admission office's inside information for where to grab breakfast, lunch or dinner.  From the pastries and artisanal bread of La Mie Bakery to the seared sea scallops of Centro and the skillets of the Waveland Café -- a favorite spot during the Iowa Caucuses -- there's something for everyone.  How about the They’re Coming to Get You Barbara burger -- ‘two grilled-cheese-sandwich’ bun, American cheese, caramelized onion, bacon, and Zombie sauce -- along with a Wedding Cake milkshake at Zombie Burger?  That sounds like adequate fuel for the college road trip. Check out all their recommendations here.

Brandeis U Joins the Gourmet Guide

Are you visiting Brandeis University in Waltham, Massachusetts, on one of your college trips? If so, we now have the best bets for where to dine after you tour the campus of this private research university nine miles west of Boston.  There are recommendations for breakfast -- caramel crunch French toast; lunch -- pad thai, pizza and steak sandwiches; and dinner -- tapas, tostadas de ceviche and sushi, as well as the best places to stop by for coffee, ice cream and burgers, of course. DePaul University joins the Gourmet Guide

Like all good foodies, the DePaul University admissions staff isn't afraid to forage far and wide. No surprise, as well, since the largest Catholic university in the country, has two Chicago campuses (as well as three suburban locations). Located both in the downtown Loop and on 36 acres in the heart of the near north Lincoln Park neighborhood, DePaul hosts more than 16,000 undergraduates. So check out the Admissions office recommendations for where to eat when visiting.
