The Prairie Canary
924 Main Street
Grinnell, IA

Opened in September 2012, this downtown restaurant serves "comfort food with a local flair" just a few blocks from campus. With an emphasis on locally sourced farm-to-table, the restaurant serves brunch, lunch and dinner from a menu that ranges from buttermilk poppyseed pancakes and steak and eggs to sweet potato and black bean burgers, free-range chicken breast stuffed with kale and parmesan with savory mushroom bread pudding and pesto-crusted salmon. The daily menu also features a variety of burgers, sandwiches, and salads.

834 Park Street
Grinnell, IA

With a "Local Foods, Global Flavors" motto, Relish is a terrific place for lunch or dinner, located in an historic Victorian home two blocks from the Grinnell campus. The menu features seasonal local produce, with classic American and European options, as well as Middle Eastern favorites. Try the grilled chicken avocado sandwich or chickpea burger; a steak sandwich with pesto mayonnaise or lamb bratwurst. And for dinner, there's chicken sauterne with shallots, garlic, sun-dried tomatoes; the kofta kabob with minced onion, spices, herbs and yogurt sauce; or vegetable wellington.

The Peppertree at Depot Crossing
1014 3rd Avenue
Grinnell, IA

Just three blocks from campus, this is an excellent restaurant located in the old Grinnell train depot building, with a lounge and a great patio. With a menu of soups, salads, pastas, and sandwiches -- think chicken bacon ranch flatbread; a cod sandwich; deep-fried walleye; or bruschetta burger -- the restaurant is also known for its steaks and prime rib.

Pagliai's Pizza
816 5th Avenue
Grinnell, IA

A central Iowa staple since the 1950's, Pagliai's is located in the heart of downtown Grinnell, just three blocks from campus. Family-owned and operated, in addition to the pizza -- vegetarian, margherita for purists, taco for the adventuresome, and the house special -- there's also pasta, salads, sandwiches and oven-baked bread sticks with meat sauce!

Dari Barn
1810 6th Avenue
Grinnell, IA

A Grinnell tradition for generations, the Dari Barn has GREAT ice cream and simple food -- shakes, malts, sundaes, fries, and frozen yogurt. Order at the window and sit at one of the outside tables. Open March - October only.

Grinnell Steakhouse
2110 West Street
South Grinnell, IA

A family restaurant and bar just off I-80, three miles from campus, here's where you'll find some of the best steaks you'll ever eat. Your choice -- you can cook your own prime beef over a huge indoor grill or have them cook it for you for a few extra dollars. And there are burgers, pork, chicken and a salad bar, too.
