Louisiana

Louisiana Tech University

From Leah Beasley, Assistant Athletics Director, BS Class of 2005, MBA Class of 2006:

Ponchatoula’s
109 East Park Avenue
Ruston, Louisiana

You can’t visit Louisiana or Ruston without trying this establishment’s Louisiana Cajun cuisine, especially their crawfish (seasonal) — “peel ‘em, pinch em, suck ‘em.” There’s a blues band mural on the wall, lots of local sports teams’ memorabilia and pool tables in the back. And what’ not to love about a menu that has a section titled “From the Fryers” that showcases stuffed catfish, crab cakes, and hush puppies? Fun fact: Elvis Presley recorded here when it was the site of KRUS radio.

Sundown Tavern
111 East Park Avenue
Ruston, Louisiana

More Louisiana cuisine — the Sundown is famous for their po’boys and fried green beans and zucchini. And there’s live music weekly  – from Zydeco and Bluegrass to Ska, Brass Bands, and the Blues.

Dawg House Sports Grill
102 North Homer Street
Ruston, Louisiana

“Best Burgers in North Louisiana” — in fact, award-winning burgers and wings — according to Delta Style magazine. Dawg House has a great college atmosphere with thirteen TV’s, darts, pool and murals and memorabilia from LA Tech. (Hence the name–Dawg House — we’re the Bulldogs). It’s the go-to place for LA Tech students and faculty for a great meal and later at night it turns into a college bar.

Twisted Cow
975 Tech Drive
Ruston, Louisiana

A favorite among Tech students due to its location on campus, it boasts a variety of yogurts — including tart — and you can build it out with your own toppings.
